Water In November's Election

Finish the Job Before Drought Strikes Again

When it comes to California and water, our job is never done. November’s election gives California voters another chance to show how important a safe, reliable and certain water supply is to our families, our communities, our food producers and California’s environment.

Proposition 3 on the November Ballot completes the job begun by 2014’s Proposition 1 water bond measure and June 2018’s Proposition 68. It funds projects that help California’s water supply, water conveyance, groundwater sustainability and storage, as well as pay the costs of water conservation rebate programs.

Leading up to the vote, CalWA is collecting links to important news articles and editorials about Proposition 3 that will help those interested in water policy understand the measure in depth. We’re also providing related links to other information sources, including the voter’s information data and Proposition 3’s proponents’ website.

All this good information will help you make a difference when you vote on November 6.

SUMMARY

Proposition 3 is a citizen’s bond measure and $8.8 billion dollar ballot initiative by proponents in favor of providing Californians with safe, clean water and securing a safe, reliable water supply and good water infrastructure so that the state and its people are protected from its frequent droughts. Those who support Proposition 3 include a coalition of cities, counties, elected officials of both parties, food producers, environmental and conservation organizations and labor groups that know water is the key to California’s future. Proposition 3 provides critical funds for improving water quality for up to a million Californians now drinking from unsafe and unhealthy water supply sources. The measure also provides funds to repair important aqueducts and improve operational efficiency of the State Water Project’s Central Valley operations.
